Uncomfortable conversations are often the most meaningful conversations. But are we really listening to each other? Reporters work to elevate the voices of marginalized communities of color and the victims of injustice. But how do you do that if you can’t really hear or understand the plight of the people you are covering? How do newsrooms maintain trust with communities that feel as though news coverage has too often misrepresented (or underrepresented) them?

In this session we explore the challenges journalists face when it comes to covering race, equity and justice and how reporters walk the line to preserve fairness and accuracy in reporting while accurately representing the diversity of communities they serve.
